At Castello we are working towards a future ambition where our packaging is 100% recyclable and renewable by 2026.
The carton board on our mould cheese for example is already 100% sourced from FSC and we are now also using less plastic in our packaging. We are committed to the journey ahead towards a more circular economy. Below we share a few of the successes, as well as the bumps in the road, we've experienced so far.
We kicked off 2022 with a big revamp of our cream cheese rings. We reduced plastic by replacing the plastic lid with an easily recyclable cardboard sleeve. The remaining plastic tray is now also fully recyclable and made with 80% recycled material.
In 2021 we finished converting our mould cheese cardboard wrappers to be sourced from FSC certified suppliers of cardboard. Such as the Castello Creamy Blue seen here. That's 13 different products now featuring the FSC mark.
We don't think it's right to put vanity ahead of sustainability. Whilst black plastic trays we used to have on products like our Burger Blue Slices might have looked smart and appealing, the colour black makes it hard to recycle into other products. That didn't sit right with our waste mindset, so we got rid of black plastic all together and today Castello is 100% free of black plastic packaging.
At Castello we continuously strive to put a creative spin on traditional favourites as well as our own unique creations. Our talented cheese makers across Denmark and around the world have been crafting hundreds of cheese recipes to feed your senses since 1893. From deliciously creamy mould cheeses to beautifully balanced hard cheeses. Here you can explore our full range of delicious flavours, textures and types of Castello cheese.
For years our dairies have been continuously working on reducing the amount of cheese that's wasted. From taking daily walks to spot waste issues, to introducing renewable energy to keep the cheeses churning. Discover more here.
